Mr. Squid - The Ultimate Cat Toy

 Our Quality Control Team

SquidTech is all about making the most durable and effective cat toy possible and our cats have participated in the development of Mr. Squid as much, if not more, than we have. Recognizing their contribution, we proudly introduce our quality control team:

Nelson (short for Admiral Horatio Nelson) - Our senior cat, Nelson is a 10 year old Siamese. A particularly short-tempered beast, Nelson is the one cat we have found that shows no interest in Mr. Squid. We have decided that Darby Conley, who draws the Get Fuzzy cartoon strip, must have modeled Bucky the Cat after Nelson's twin brother. Bad tempered, but a fine looking cat.

Morgan (short for Morgana le Fey) - Morgan is a 8 year old mackerel tabby who was part of a litter rescued by Sister MaryJohn of Cats Are Purrsons Too (see our Links page) after their mother was killed. Morgan has been an active part of the Mr. Squid development team from the beginning when Jim started tossing a hookless fishing lure around for her and her brother to chase. In spite of her relatively small size, Morgan clearly runs the cat side of the household. As a consequence, she has been awarded the prestigious 'Little Dog' title (In spite of numerous attempts by Nelson to wrest it way from him, Jim retains the 'Big Dog' position).

The Duke (short for Arthur, Duke of Wellington) - The Duke is Morgan's brother, part of the same litter rescued by Sister MaryJohn. He is a traditional orange tabby and has also been involved in the Mr. Squid development since the beginning. Many people who believe that they own the world's greatest cat are sorely disappointed when they meet the Duke and realize that they don't.

Lucy - Lucy (short for Lucretia) adopted us one day when she showed up in our backyard and refused to leave. Lucy arrived, spayed and declawed (hardly an enviable situation for a cat living on the 'mean streets'), and in she came. However, while Lucy is one of the most affectionate and vocal cats we have ever come across, she has a deep and abiding hatred for all other cats. She has, consequently, been sent to live with Jim’s daughter, who has no other cats.

Pyewacket - Pyewacket is, very literally, a rescue. Lori Jo opened the back door one February night only to have a skinny black kitten with icicles on her whiskers come charging in with a large, hungry raccoon in hot pursuit. Pyewacket was invited in, the raccoon wasn't.

Auxiliary Staff – Shortly after our acquisition of Pyewacket, her mother, a feral cat of some local notoriety, apparently recognized an opportunity and showed up with her latest issue, five kittens. We commenced to neuter all comers, but one was way too pregnant for us to go through with the spaying. We, consequently, acquired some additional, unexpected auxiliary staff.....

We are sorry to say that our move to Nevada was not entirely without trauma to our staff. Given the rigors of adjusting to the new home and life in the desert, Spike and Buddy wandered off, never to return.  While we expect the worst, a tiger cat answering Spike’s description makes frequent appearances in our front yard.
